After the successful launch test of their first intercontinental ballistic missile, the Hwasong-14, North Korea held a series of celebrations to commemorate the work done by those involved in the project.

From a hero’s welcome in the capital to a feast which featured miniature models of their long range missile systems, the celebrations concluded in a concert attended by the country’s leader, Kim Jong Un.

LOOK: Never Before Seen Images of North Korea Missile Program

Half way through the concert, however, a series of images appeared showing scenes from North Korea’s missile program, some of which have never before been released to the outside world.

The images contained early scenes from North Korea’s missile program under Kim Il Sung, the country’s founder, until their most recent test on July 4.

LOOK: Never Before Seen Images of North Korea Missile Program

Images appeared on missile systems that would leave a huge mark on the North’s missile program, failed tests, development facilities and even what may be our first glimpse of what North Korean missile storage looks like.

The pictures shown at the concert helped elaborate the information about the history of North Korea’s missile program.

LOOK: Never Before Seen Images of North Korea Missile Program

They reveal with more detail the technological advancements which have allowed Pyongyang to develop a more diverse and sophisticated arsenal.

All these advances, however, seem directly tied to the Kim family.

LOOK: Never Before Seen Images of North Korea Missile Program

In previous missile testings, the media will often show a mix of images with and without Kim Jong Un.

However in all 190 images released during the concert, a Kim is either included or that image is a combination of two scenes with a warhead and one of the three Kims, fueling the implication that the Kim family have been responsible for the program’s development and success.

LOOK: Never Before Seen Images of North Korea Missile Program

It also proves how important this program is to Kim Jong Un. With his presence at tests and missile assemblies we had never seen before pictures, we can most likely expect that this program is not stopping anytime soon — and that we will probably be seeing more of these images in the near future.

It took time, it took effort, but sixteen years after fleeing South Korea, Felicidad Reyes, nickname “Ging-ging”, has finally reunited with her sons through video calls.

Ging-ging is the mother of three; 16-year-old Jayson, born in the Philippines, Lee Seung Hee and Lee Jin Hee, who she had to leave behind so she could save their brother’s life.

Apparently, it is considered a bad omen in Korean culture to have a succession of sons, and Ging-ging ‘s husband had wanted her to have an abortion.

Obviously, she disagreed, so she left to save her youngest son at the cost of never seeing her other sons again.

Until Jayson finally decided that he wanted to meet the father and brothers he had never seen before. Through social media he was able to reconnect his mother and older brothers, it may not be a perfect solution, but it’s one that’s working out so far.

Mr Rodrigues, a successful IT specialist, had just decided one day that he wanted to quit his job. What he did in his basement next was surprising.

Instead of doing profitable work for other people, he retired to his basement and developed a best-selling computer product.

Carl Rodrigues says that his family and friends thought he had gone insane.

The problem was that he was fresh out of ideas. But to the worry of his wife, and scorn of his mother-in-law – who lived with them – he was still determined.

So back in 2001 he locked himself beneath his house in the city of Mississauga, Canada, and started to come up with something.

He said:

“My goal was that I wanted to see what I could produce if I did something I really liked. I didn’t know what I was going to do, but I thought I would give it a shot.”

And after a month working “crazy hours”, Mr Rodrigues had come up with his completed idea – a software system would let the user remotely control his or her mobile phone from their laptop.

He called his new company SOTI, and sales of the system started to grow slowly, until a year later Mr Rodrigues got a phone call from one of the UK’s biggest supermarket groups.

The firm didn’t want to sell the system, instead it wanted to integrate it into its operations, so their staff could better communicate and exchange data and other information.

Mr Rodrigues, now 55 and Soti’s chief executive, said:

“I was still in my basement when I got a call from the company, saying they would like to place an order.”

“I don’t think they realised that they were talking to just one guy in a basement, so when the person asked to speak to someone in sales I came back on the phone with a slightly different tone.”

That did the trick, and the UK firm placed a “huge order” for 20,000 units!

Soti had soared high; and while most people have never heard of the firm – because it caters to companies instead of consumers – it today has annual revenues of $80m (£62m).

This is despite Mr Rodrigues not having to make any external investment. The business is 100% owned by him and his wife.

Continuing to turn down one takeover bid after another, including an offer from Microsoft in 2006, the Canadian CEO instead says he wants Soti to “become as big as they get” in the computer world.

Born in Pakistan to a Roman Catholic family that descended from the Portuguese colony of Goa on west coast India, Mr Rodrigues moved to Canada with his entire family when he was 11.

The decision to leave Pakistan was his mother’s. He says she was increasingly concerned at the country’s political and social instability in the early 1970s.

As the family spoke English at home, Mr Rodrigues says he had no problem living in Toronto. He even quickly acclimatized to the cold weather.

Today the company is worth more than $1bn (£770m), and has 17,000 business clienteles around the world, and 700 employees across 22 countries.

Instead of still being crammed in Mr Rodrigues’ basement, its headquarters is now divided across two buildings in Mississauga, which borders Toronto in the Canadian province of Ontario.

Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, Philippines, is considered as the guitar capital of the country. Its handmade ukuleles and guitars are sold worldwide.

In every business, there is always a competition. The guitar makers face several unusual competition.

According to a guitar maker, when the karaoke came, people are not anymore using a guitar.

Fernando Dagoc Jr., a guitar handcrafter said:

“When the karaoke came, people drinking have the karaoke instead of the guitar.”

“Every 50 meters there’s a karaoke.”

The guitar factories in Lapu-Lapu City are crafting the guitars and ukuleles the old fashioned way, handmade like what they have done for decades.

Dagoc said:

“We prioritize quality over quantity. We would like to show everyone that there are still Filipino-made guitars that are very good quality.”

The Handcrafters make sure that the guitars are a work of art.

“The way we build our guitars is actually done by a single luthier, so that makes it unique and a work of art,”

Creselda Valiente of New Susing’s Guitar said.

According to Fernando Dagoc Jr., the number of handcrafters are dwindling and the tradition is not passed on to another generation. Even though they conduct training sessions, the new generation really lacks the enthusiasm to do it.

“There are less and less people working in this craft. The skills isn’t passed from one generation to another. Even though we could train them, the interest is not there. We hold onto our passion of really making high-quality instruments.” – Dagoc

“Let the people understand that there are still handcrafted instruments like that,” Dagoc added.
