A Catholic priest was arrested after being caught entering a motel with an under-aged girl Marikina City.
Msgr. Arnel Fuentes Lagarejos, 55, was caught in an entrapment operation by the PNP and DSWD on Friday.
According to a report by the Eastern Police District, the priest spoke to a 16 who seemed to act as the “dealer” at the Blue Wave Mall in Barangay Sto. Niño, Marikina City.
The 13-year old girl’s mother found out what was happening and immediately informed the police, prompting the entrapment operation.
The priest drove a Ford Explorer numbered TGO 350 and was about to enter a motel when the authorities arrived.
It was revealed that the priest owned a firearm which was discovered upon his arrest.
The police, meanwhile, were surprised as they did not expect their marked man to be a priest.
In an interview on Radio DZBB, Marikina Police chief Senior Superintendent Roger Quesada said the girl told the police that Lagarejos pointed a gun at her in their previous meeting in June and told her not to accept bookings from other men.
The police are still trying to find out if Lagarejos legally owns the firearm.
“Masasampahan po natin siya ng, kung wala pong papel ‘yung baril, ay illegal possession [of firearms],”
The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) had already announced Lagarejos’ suspension.
The priest has also been charged with violating Republic Act 9208 or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act.
