Shooting Incident Near Champs-Elysées Area of Paris, France

One police officer was confirmed dead, as well as an alleged suspect, to which ISIS claimed as one of their operatives.

The group issued a statement released by the media wing of the group, Amaq, announcing that an Islamic State “fighter” carried out an attack tonight on the Champs-Elysées in Paris. In the statement made by ISIS, it was declared that the attacker is of Belgian nationality. Furthermore, they made mention of certain “security sources.”

According to the source of CNN, the shooter was known to French security services for radical Islamic activities. The suspect has been on the radar of the French domestic security service who was also the subject of a “Fiche S” surveillance file.

French Ministry of Interior spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet stated that the incident started at around 9 p.m. in Paris.

According to him, the attacker in Paris shooting

“got out the vehicle and shot at the police vehicle with an automatic weapon, killing one policeman instantly… then ran away, managing to shoot and wound two other policemen. Other policemen engaged and shot and killed the attacker.”
