Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte won the 2017 TIME 100 poll after constantly leading the surveys.
TIME 100 is an annual list of world’s 100 most influential people assembled by American news magazine Time.
President Duterte received 5% of the total ‘yes’ votes in the poll. Since starting the office, Duterte has waged a war on drugs which according to Reuters, killed more than 8,000 people.
The aggressive war on drugs has earned Duterte criticism from various human rights group and the country’s political leaders, including the Vice President Leni Robredo.
Coming close to President Duterte in the Polls were Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Pope Francis, Bill Gates then Mark Zuckerberg. All of them got a total of 3% of the ‘yes’ votes.
Last year, U.S. Bernie Sanders won the 2016 reader poll while the year before that Russia’s Vladimir Putin took the gold in 2015.
The official Time list selected by the editors will be released on April 20, 2017.
