To fix the worsening land traffic in the Philippines, especially in Metro Manila, fourteen Senators agreed to give President Rodrigo Duterte emergency powers.
Senator Grace Poe included in her speech that the traffic in the Philippines is a “virus engulfing the nation” and cost Metro Manila P876-B in annual economic traffic expenses. She leads the Senate Public Services Committee.
P3-B was wasted a day due to traffic. This was the reason why the committee decided to grant the President emergency powers according to Poe.
The Emergency Powers granted to President Duterte would only affect until 2019.
